How it works (and privacy)

  • Press Start camera and allow access. Your webcam feed is drawn to a tiny hidden canvas, converted to text ~30×/second, and shown live. Adjust the width and mode (ASCII or Braille), or hit Invert for dark rooms.
  • Grab a frame: "Copy frame" copies the current ASCII text; "Save .txt" downloads it.
  • Nothing leaves your device. There's no recording and no upload — the video stays in your browser. When you press Stop, switch tabs, or leave the page, the camera is turned off immediately (the light goes out).
  • The camera needs a secure page (this site is served over HTTPS), and it only starts after you press the button — never automatically.

Is my webcam recorded or uploaded?

No. The video is processed live in your browser and never recorded or sent anywhere. When you stop, change tabs, or leave, the camera turns off right away.

Why won’t the camera start?

You need to allow camera access when the browser asks, and the page must be secure (HTTPS) — this one is. If you blocked it earlier, re-allow the camera in your browser’s site settings and press Start again.

Can I use the back camera on my phone?

Yes — press “Flip camera” to switch between the front and back cameras.

How do I save the ASCII picture?

While the camera is running, press “Copy frame” to copy the current ASCII text, or “Save .txt” to download it as a text file.
