How Rust color codes work (and where they don’t)

  • Rust uses Unity rich text: <color=#RRGGBB>your text</color>. Full hex is supported — so gradients and rainbows are smooth (no banding).
  • The honest catch: colored names and chat only render on modded servers that enable it (an Oxide/uMod plugin like Better Chat or Coloured Chat). On vanilla / official servers it shows as plain text with the tags visible. Ask your server, or use it on your own modded server.
  • Use 6-digit hex (no 8-digit alpha) — this tool always outputs the 6-digit form.

How do I get a colored name in Rust?

Copy a code here — it looks like <color=#ff0000>Name</color> — and use it where your server allows (name or chat). It only shows in color on modded servers that enable Unity rich text.

Why does my Rust color code show as plain text?
